Why are you going to tell me that a model for a casual game is good because it's the same as a "competitive" ? Calling HoN a mockery is uncalled for and unfounded. Lastly, if you're going to make radical claims, at least back them up a little bit. The backlash from the community would hurt the game way too much. At this point though, removing from the game is not an option. When beginners play a different hero every game, they're really hurting their development a lot imo.Īs for stats, I agree that they often do more harm than good. Forcing players into the same few characters will cause them to learn other skills better. I disagree that this model hurts competitive training. I definitely have qualms with changing the business model after release, but I definitely think F2P was the right choice to make. HoN is now using the same model as LoL, and LoL may soon become the most popular esport. I agree with Zoanthropy, but not with all of your followups, Jeefmasta. Message to s2 - stop fucking trying to compete with dota. they have tried to be a dota clone for TOO FUCKING LONG. S2 just simply is not in touch with their players and their players wants and needs. Whats the fucking point? Just to show other players who the bad person is? who to pick on? Who to rage at? I"ll NEVER understand why you have a forced MM system and ALSO have completely public stats. it separates and divides people EVEN WORSE than public stats have. It doesn't allow for competitive training it doesn't allow for the community to be on the same page. The fact that you can't play all the heroes without buying them or waiting months has killed this game more than anybody realizes. The simple fact of the matter is HoN shouldn't try to compete with LoL OR DotA - I think they only have a very specific market of players left still playing this game and midwars is a better direction for it. Hon is an absolute MOCKERY to competitive video games and has been ever since about the time they hired Phil and DotA 2's scene blew up. The game also doesn't match up to LoL's casual fun and item collecting / F2P style. The simple fact is the game doesnt play as well as dota in terms of finely balenced competitive hardly fought game play. You can't pin down the mistakes made on HoN to a few managers or the owner or ect. s2 members and all that - but anybody close enough to the organization knows that they've all had their fair share of fuck ups. I agree with you sir - I believe this is the strongest reason out of any. But why should he bother when there's games like LoL or DOTA2 where the fact you lost isn't rubbed in your face in the most aggravating and annoying way possible(in a way endorsed by the creators of the game, no less), while still getting the same basic gameplay? I mean sure, you could tell him to man up. One of the friends I introduced the game to didn't want to play it after a few games saying, "This is a game made by assholes, for assholes." And this is a friend who can stomach LoL and DOTA2 just fine. There's more examples that cater to the most unsavory, juvenile part of competitive online games, but I'm not going to list them here.

A flamboyant announcer rubs it in your face in the most flagrant way possible that you, yes you personally, just got owned. There's a taunt that has a squirrel rub its nuts on your corpse. S2 itself promotes that shitty elitist attitude. I know LoL and DOTA2 are like that, too, but there's a key difference with HoN. The player's attitudes are very, very shitty.
